The Essex Roads Policing Unit attended a lorry that dropped its load onto the A414 junction with the A12 in Chelmsford.

Thankfully, the Essex Police Rural Engagement Team was there to help clear up the mess, however this incident serves as an important reminder of how dangerous loose loads can be.

The lorry was carrying wooden planks which were not secured enough, causing them to fall out. The road had snow on it at the time, and the vehicle was taking a turn, causing the shed of the load. The load posed a danger to other motorists and the pavement users, who would have had to dodge the debris if they were in the area at the time.

Losing control of your load while driving is a serious offence and carries with it significant fines and potential jail time if convicted. It is vital that vehicle drivers and companies take extra care when packaging items for transport to ensure they are sufficiently secured to prevent accidents like this occurring. All items must be suitably fastened, secured or otherwise held in place so that they cannot move freely either during transit or when unloaded

The incident serves as a stark reminder of just how dangerous an insecure load can be. Drivers and companies should take extra care when loading vehicles to ensure items are securely attached before travelling on public roads. Always err on the side of caution when it comes to securing your load – it could save lives!
