Wiltshire road policing unit has recently pulled over a driver who was transporting an overloaded vehicle. The driver was subsequently fined £600 and will face a court report for multiple document and dangerous condition offences. This serves as a reminder to all drivers and companies to ensure that all vehicles remain compliant with road regulations.

The vehicle had a gross overload of 43.4%, weighing 5020 kg, i.e., an excess load of 1520kgs.

Upon inspection of the driver’s documents, the police discovered that he only held a provisional driving licence, meaning he was alone in his journey and not accompanied by an experienced driver.  The officer issued fines totaling £600 and sent him to court for multiple document and dangerous condition offences.

This incident serves as an important warning to drivers and companies transporting goods across roads; they must comply with all necessary regulations or face hefty fines. All vehicles must be properly registered, insured, serviced, maintained, inspected and meet the weight limits set out by law.

Furthermore, most goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes need to be operated by someone holding the correct category of licence. Companies should ensure that those transporting goods are trained accordingly or else risk huge financial losses due to fines or even prosecution if any rules are broken in regards to goods transport regulations.
