Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council has given the go-ahead for substantial industrial development in Wales in recent years: a huge glass-bottle manufacturing plant in Ebbw Vale.
It will be built near the Brecon Beacons National Park at Rassau Industrial Estate.
The project has a price tag of £390 million, and Turkish company CiNER Glass Ltd, one of the world’s largest glass manufacturers, intends to build it with a model that is ecologically responsible, long-lasting, and values people.
The first segment, dubbed Dragon Glass, is expected to be operational by the end of 2024.
A three-part operational facility for the production of glass bottles will be built in this area. Apart from backup fuel storage facilities, main entrance security lodges, and a weighbridge.
At a minimum, the applicant considers that 642 operational and 450 building jobs would be created.
The facility is a positive and much-needed addition to the region’s economy, according to Cllr. Morgan, the council’s executive member for place & regeneration.
