In a tweet released by Lancashire Police, it was revealed that their Commercial Vehicle Enforcement team had caught an HGV with numerous offences in the Lancaster area. These offences included driver’s hours, load and mechanical defects, but the police have dealt with them through prohibition and prosecution. The HGV was cabled up and a referral to the Traffic Commissioner has been sent out
The incident occurred as part of #showusyourload, which is an ongoing campaign where police officers make sure that all vehicles adhere to rules while carrying load. They use various methods to check if drivers are complying with regulations such as vehicle checks, driver’s hours checks and roadside interviews. This particular HGV was found to have numerous offences related to its operation and these were dealt with accordingly by both prohibition (where certain actions or activities are restricted or forbidden) and prosecution (where criminal charges are brought against someone)
The severity of this case means that the HGV will be cabled up until Monday when it can be properly inspected by authorities. Alongside this, a referral has been sent out to the Traffic Commissioner who will decide what further action should be taken against this vehicle’s operator. This could include fines or suspensions for non-compliance with road safety regulations.
This latest incident serves as a warning for all drivers and companies operating HGVs on British roads that these vehicles must comply with all relevant regulations at all times.
