The Highlands Road Police conducted checks with the DVSA Enforcement in Inverness, Scotland.

A truck was found to be 720 kg above its maximum axle weight limit. The load was also insecure. Additionally, three driver’s hours infringements were also reported. The truck was seized by the police and the driver reported for summons.

Four other drivers were also warned regarding load security and minor defects. This operation was part of an on-going commitment by the Highlands and Islands Roads Policing Unit to improve road safety in the region.

As part of the similar operation, Lockerbie Roads Police and Dumfries Roads Police conducted a joint operation with DVSA enforcement, focusing on lorries and vans. On weighing the van was found to be 36% overweight and a prohibition was issued subsequently. 

Overloading a vehicle can cause serious damage to the roads, as well as posing a danger to other road users. It can be fined up to £5000 and 3 points on your licence. If you are caught driving an overloaded vehicle, you may be prosecuted.
