Lincolnshire RPU officers made a stop near Grantham this week, pulling over a tractor waiting to exit onto the A52. The straps holding the load were insufficient, and there was no bulkhead present – meaning the load was insecure. The driver was educated on the importance of proper loading and securing, and issued a traffic offence report.

This mirrors similar actions taken by RPU officers last week in Sleaford, conducting static vehicle checks. Traffic offence reports were issued for a variety of violations including an insecure load likely to cause danger, lack of seatbelt, exceeding drivers hours, windows obstructed and no number plate displayed/not conforming, and no MOT.

Load securing is important for multiple reasons – it protects other motorists from being hit by debris in the event of an accident, it prevents items from toppling over and causing damage or injury, and adhering to weight regulations ensures that the vehicle will handle properly. When loads are not properly secured, it puts everyone on the road at risk.

Lincolnshire Police’s Specialist Operations team is dedicated to keeping roads safe for everyone using them. Through initiatives like #showusyourload and random vehicle checks, they are sending a strong message that offences will not be tolerated. By taking action against those who violate load securement regulations, they are helping to make the roads safer for everyone.
