Metcalfe Farms has submitted an application to Richmondshire District Council for a staff offices complex, agricultural structures, a weighbridge, and a surface water collection pond.
The 2,000-acre farm on Moor Road has a long history of producing milk and sheep for the dairy herd of 900 Holsteins and an equivalent number of sheep, which have previously been engaged in agricultural and haulage contracting with a fleet of 90 heavy vehicles.
The farm is seeking planning approval to build a new, one-of-a-kind workplace for Metcalfe Farms staff as well as two agricultural buildings, a weighbridge and surface water collection pond.
Metcalfe Farms is a major employer in the Dales and has been steadily increasing its size.
The new buildings are intended to help the company flourish while also improving its employees’ working conditions.
The site’s zoning has been amended to allow for the construction of a new staff offices and museum/archive as part of the application.
To accommodate agricultural equipment, the site is being divided into two identical buildings.
A second weighbridge will be built in close proximity to the new permitted access track. Its placement is intended to allow for quick vehicle passage and weighing as they enter and depart the site.
