In a recent Twitter post, Northamptonshire Police shared a photo of a stopped truck that was found to be almost 50% overweight. The load was not secured and there were only two straps holding the load on the trailer. Additionally, one of the tires was below 1mm, which makes for a very dangerous combination. The driver has been summoned to court and the vehicle has been prohibited.

Trucks that are overweight or with not properly secured load pose a serious risk to both the driver and other motorists on the road. An overloaded truck can have difficulty stopping, turning, or accelerating, which can lead to accidents. If a load shifts while the truck is moving, it can cause the truck to tip over. In addition, under-inflated tires can cause blowouts, which can also lead to accidents.

If a truck is found to be overweight, the driver will be summoned to court and the vehicle will be prohibited. This means that the driver will not be able to drive the vehicle until it has been brought into compliance with weight regulations. Depending on the severity of the offence, the driver may also be fined.

It’s important to make sure that your trucks are in compliance with weight regulations not only for the safety of other motorists, but also to avoid costly consequences like fines and court appearances.
