The Operation Vortex is a police campaign against unsafe driving in Greater Manchester. As part of the campaign, police officers stop vehicles and check for offences such as insecure loads, overloading, etc. If any offences are found, the driver is issued with a fine and points.

In this instance, the vehicle was found to have an insecure load and was also 850 kgs overweight. The Commercial Vehicle Unit issued Roadworthiness Prohibition (PG9) on the vehicle. PG9 is normally given for mechanical problems or for the condition of a vehicle’s body part and equipment. The driver was issued with £600 in fines and 3 points.

This latest incident highlights the importance of following the highway code and ensuring that your vehicle is in good condition before setting off on a journey

Drivers who flout the law are not only putting themselves at risk, but also other road users. The police urge all drivers to take care when driving and to make sure that their vehicles are safe to use on the roads.
