The Roads Patrolling Unit (RPU) of Wiltshire Specialist Operations team found an overloaded vehicle with multiple offences on M4 J15.

Apart from being overloaded, the vehicle had sharp edges to its body, the cords were exposed on the tyres, the vehicle chassis had cracks and holes. Two of the tyres of the vehicle were totally deflated and the MOT of the vehicle had expired in July 2021, meaning the vehicle was moving around with no MOT for more than a year. The vehicle wasn’t paying the tax as well.

The RPU issued Roadworthiness Prohibition (PG9) on the vehicle. PG9 is normally given for mechanical problems or for the condition of a vehicle’s body part and equipment. It  could have an immediate or delayed effect, depending on how severe the defect is.

If a vehicle is issued PG9, the driver has to make sure that the vehicle is not used on the road until it is repaired and brought up to the required standards. The RPU team will be monitoring this and checking if the driver has complied with the order. If they find that the driver has used the vehicle on the road, they can take further action which may include a court appearance.
