Roads Policing and Road Safety Teams of Avon and Somerset Police along with DVSA Enforcement stopped several vehicles that were not following rules, in Bristol.
A scaffolding vehicle, overweight with 8350kg was seized. The law states that the weight of a vehicle must not exceed the maximum authorisation by more than 10%.
Apart from the HGV being overweight by around 30%, the vehicle had no MoT and had no operator licence as well. The driver was driving on Category B driving licence, which permits to drive vehicles only up to 3500 kgs.
The truck had a dangerous tyre defect, which according to DVSA standards, should have been repaired or the vehicle should not have been used on road.
The vehicle was seized due to the serious offences. The driver was also reported for various traffic offences. The scaffolding company was prosecuted.
This incident highlights the importance of following rules for both operator and drivers. Not only does it keep everyone safe on roads, but also prevents penalties.
