The Lancashire Road Police took an HGV to the check site at Cuerden for weight check. On weighing, the vehicle was found to be contravening weight specified on movement order on two axles by more than 15%.

The police issued fixed penalties of £600. The driver was also given advice about the importance of complying with weight restrictions. Load adjustment was demanded before allowing the vehicle to move off.

If the HGV had been found to be more than 20% overweight on any axle, it would have been detained.

Overweight HGVs are a common problem on UK roads. This is because they can cause damage to the road surface and increase congestion. In addition, they can be dangerous to other road users.

If you are stopped by the police for driving an overweight HGV, you could be fined up to £5000. You may also have your vehicle seized and be banned from driving.
