Following van checks in Thurrock, the DVSA found 59 defects in 12 vehicles.
On the way back to London, DVSA spotted a van pulling itself along the North Circular road.
On further examination, 4 defects were detected and the van with a limit of 3500 kg weighed 6280 kg, overweight by 2780 kg.
The driver was issued with a prohibition notice and the van was taken off the road.
On the day before, the Mersey Police’s Roads Policing Unit spotted a refrigerated van. On weighing, the vehicle was found to be overweight by 1660 kg.
The driver was also issued with a prohibition notice and the van was taken off the road.
This year, the DVSA has already prohibited 526 vans and lorries. The driver of the van faces a fine of up to £5000 and 3 points on their licence. The operator of the vehicle can be fined up to £5000.
