The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) spotted an overweight van along M1, on September 4th, 2022.
The van with a weight limit of 3500 kg was carrying a load of 6980 kg, being 99.43% overloaded. Due to the excess load, the tyre rim was cutting into the tyre. DVSA also noticed tyre and brake effects as well. The Brake caliper had a securing bolt missing.
A relief vehicle was sent to remove the excess weight from the van. The driver was also advised to get the tyre replaced and get the brakes checked and fixed. The driver was issued with a notice of rejection.
Overloading a vehicle can result in decreased tyre life, as well as increased wear and tear on brakes and suspension. This can pose a serious safety risk to the driver, other road users, and pedestrians. If you are stopped by the DVSA for overloading, you may be issued with a notice of rejection and your vehicle may be taken off the road.
If you have been stopped for overloading, it is important to get your vehicle checked and repaired as soon as possible. You should also make sure that you do not overload your vehicle in future to avoid further penalties.
