Merseyside Roads Policing Unit (RPU) catches a truck with 13% overweight, insecure load.

The vehicle was observed carrying an insecure load on Aigburth Road, Liverpool. On weighing, it was found to be 13% overweight. The driver was reported for both offences.

Similarly, Merseyside RPU stopped a vehicle on Borough Road in Birkenhead with an insecure load. It was then escorted to a local weighbridge where it was found to be 43% overweight. As a result, the driver was reported.

Carrying an insecure load is dangerous and illegal. It can be fined up to £5,000 and/or sentenced to six months in prison.

Overloading a vehicle can also lead to dangerous situations. An overloaded vehicle is more difficult to control, increasing the risk of an accident. It can also damage the road surface, which is costly to repair. Operators who flout the law will be prosecuted and may have their vehicles seized.

RPU will continue to target non-compliant operators in order to keep roads safe for all users.
