Sussex Roads Police Commercial Vehicle Unit conducted mobile checks along the Polegate A22 – A27 network. Several vehicles that passed by were stopped and dealt with.
The purpose of the mobile checks was to ensure that commercial vehicles were following the rules of the road. Officers from the Commercial Vehicle Unit stopped several vehicles and gave them a warning or a ticket, depending on the severity of the violation.
3 overweight vehicles with 42% excess load were found and fined. Among those, a ford transit was carrying a total weight of 4970kg.
Along with this, 3 other vehicles were issued FPNs for carrying insecure loads. One driver was found to be disqualified, that too without insurance and was summoned, and 3 other prohibitions were issued.
Overloading a vehicle can result in decreased performance, increased fuel consumption, and premature wear on tires, brakes, and other vehicle components. It can also lead to dangerous driving conditions and accidents.
Sussex Roads Police are reminding all commercial drivers to follow the rules of the road and to make sure their vehicles are not overloaded. Overloading a vehicle can be fined up to £5000.
